Found possible parasite in p14 tank

Keep- PM me if you want contact info from the the place that was going to do my necropsies..... I'm sure they should be able to pinpoint it.

I think it's the same U Miss place that DavidW recommended.

This would be the 2nd time I've heard of Nematodes being found in our ray tanks yet still have no source for treatment. (Aside from David's recomendation)

Can you take to a vet to help identify it or is there a university close by that can?

i didn't preserve it? It is shriveled up to nothing.

Bump, this kinda turned into a dead end... Any more thoughts... Should i treat /// wait?? or was it something harmless from the black worms???

NO way i feed black worms and never have seen that !!!! Leaches all the time never that ...Treating that would be your decition for sure ....If they were mine i would wait a bit try to nurse that pup back a little further get him eating a bit better .Then treat everbody Keep that is what i would do just my two cents !!!Just because the flower made it through the episode doen't mean in my mind that he is better he is still on my mind....

My understanding is that fendbendazole (panacur) works with nematodes. It is a strong parasitic med. Levamisole like DW recommended but is hard to find, but I was told you can get it a large vet clinics that work with cattle and such. Not sure if you need a script or not. But I am sure if you explain your need they will work with you. They have with me in the past for other Aquatic meds. I would still try to
find out for sure what that worm was though and try to get the male back up to the point of treating if needed for those type of meds.
If I am not mistaken Trev found a parasitic worm in his blackworms some time ago.
Also when/if you use Panacur it will cause your ray to go off feeding as a side effect.

If you're going to mess with a stronger med I'd definetly make sure he's back up to as good as you can get him. You should definetly beef him up for any kind of treatment. I made the mistake of using harsh meds with advanced stages of crap (off food for a week+) and the ray was dead in a few days.

I've been trying to find old pics of my ray named "Lump" he was swollen just like your P14. Didn't have the slightest idea how to treat or if I even needed to. He just gave up on eating one day and never ate again. I believe this was right after loosing "Zero". Zero was housed with a ray that had a nematode infestation verified by ISU I believe it was. I can't say for sure what it was, but I suspect Nematodes in all 3 cases. Will keep trying to find pics/more info........

Ok, some good news. I forgot to throw in black worms yesterday morning, and did not get home till late. He was actually out searching the tank for food. i cut up a crawler and through some small pieces in there. He actually ate a few pieces!! Which this is the first for him since 3 weeks ago. Afterward i also gave him some black worms and he ate some of those too.
While getting the blackworms out of the container, i found another worm just like the one i posted. This one was IN the black worms. So i have no doubt that the worm i found also came from the black worms too. So i doubt this is what is causing the issues. He is still swollen, but i feel good that he is much more interested in food.

If I were you, I'd stop feeding them black worms since they are bringing in so many pathogens.

i normally would never feed them.. But i had a choice.... watch him starve to death, OR feed black worms.,.. he had stopped eating everything else.
