I know your probably wondering why isnt this in the filtration and setup section but i wanted to see what people with similar stock use for their tanks.
I keep changing filtration setups mostly because im unsatisfied with the results or practicality or ease of maintance.my last setup consisted of and fx5, rena filstar xp4, fbf 900 and a proclear aquatics wet dry 125 sump on my 210 7'x2'x2'. it was hell of a time when that time of month came for maintanence.currently i upgraded to a intex krystal klear 2000gph pool filter jammed packed with carbon foam pads and bio balls with custom pvc spray bars across the rear top. btw tank is bottom drilled.

so lets see how you keep your heavy load /monster tank clean!!!

I have a 240 8'x2'x2' and use a 55 gallon sump (mag 18 pump) with 44lbs of ceramic rings, 2x fx5s filled with ceramic rings, and just bought a 36 watt UV sterilizer and hopefully will have that hooked up by friday.

6x2x2 180g i use two eheim 2260's packed with eheim rings and and scrubbies, plus two eheim 2252 internals packed with polyfilter, plus 3 w/cs a week

I think you are the first cichla person that I feel have asked the right question. Anyone can put a filter on a tank but what does the cichla look like or how big? There is a difference between big fish - small fish, big tank -small tank and most important ugly fish - nice fish. Glad you stated heavy load and monster tank which narrows it down. Hope you find an answer. Proof is in the cichla.

For now I have a 75 with an aquaclear 110 filter located in the middle. I have a hydro ( 40 gallon ) sponge filter in 1 corner with a Lee's ( 40 gallon ) corner filter in the opposite corner. The 2 corner filters are operated by airstones from my dual outlet heavy duty air pump.

The Lees filter has extra bio max and ammonia chips in it with wool packing. Aqua clear filter has a filter pad ammonia chips and lots of bio max. I eliminated all carbon over a month ago when I added a bunch of driftwood and some live plants.

on my habitat wich ends up working out to AROUND 135 GAL give or take a few. i got two ehiem pro IIs and a ehiem pro II knockoff. Pluss two powerheads with sponges
