PETA sue Seaworld for enslave the whales...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Again, there is no difference between a marine mammal kept in capitivity from other animals in capitivity.

Like what other animals? Dogs and cats? Hamsters? Parakeets?

^ hippie.

i'm okay with turtlefest and rough handling wild turtles but i'm on the fence with fishkeeping. you're loopy

wtf? i thought it was well established that you were the hippie of our group? and did i say i was ok with it? i really dont' remember, that's why i'm asking, lol

i think i was against turtlefest in general but my problem was that some people said that sport fishing was ok, but turtle fest wasn't

i'm pretty sure your stance on it was it's okay as long as they were made into soup afterwards. haha, alright, enough derailment. debate of whales in captivity vs gars and aripimas in fishkeeping hobby may resume

touch gloves *DING DING DING*

Remember that people used to eat whales...some people still can do this legally :P

If we lose places like Sea World/Zoo/Public Aquarium etc, I think a vast number of population would lose the only interactions with these creatures...and in the long run, harm instead of help the long term prospects of those animals.

All of animals that we kept in capitivity included exotic animals and zoo animals.

This all roots on how anthropomorphic you are. Do your animals care? Does a Oscar really give a damn or notice the diff in a 55 and a 75 when there natural habitats are bodies of water so much larger than we can provide. Yet you read on here go with a 75 the Oscar'd be much happier. I don't get it. 20 gallons to a fish found in the amazon that is 10 miles wide at its widest spot? Do we know if an Oscar is kept in proper water and fed does he care about anything else? Are we projecting our human feelings of being cramped onto an animal that may not care at all? I don't know but I think its slightly hypocritical to demonize keeping whales then shoving Amazonian fish into water volumes that even the biggest tank is a drop in the water too. There should be a ratio, I don't know it but the size of the whale to the tank with some fish kept in the hobby and the tanks they are kept in. I am not exactly a fan of sea world but there could be the possibility they are helping the animals plight.I don't know they're projects etc. They are most likely in for money which the whole world is. The fact the orcas dorsal fins usually atrophy makes me think its a miserable life. But I just cant personally demonize them when I look at my tanks, after all there are posts all day on here about sick fish, fish fighting etc etc because everyone on here is keeping fish for mostly there selfish reasons and we have surely made mistakes and living animals have suffered through them sure sounds similar to me. Were probably next for PETA.

I don't really see that as a bad thing. These are giant majestic creatures. Why should they be kept in swimming pools? These whales migrate all over the world and travel thousand of miles. They're highly evolved social animals. Why is it that we feel the need to keep them in captivity? I'd much rather see a documentary on TV of them being filmed in the wild then see a poor whale doing tricks for me at Sea World.

As for killing them, that's a whole other issue. The Japanese are single-handily destroying the world's oceans for their own selfish desires; seafood.

Ok yes. I feel the same way about these whales as I do with exotic animals and even zoos. But to compare this to EVERY animal that is kept in captivity is just plain stupid. A house cat or a dog is NOT the same issue. Not even close.

Obviously releasing the Orcas has not turned out very well, which is why I do in fact support banning the capture of new Orcas (they are not whales despite what their name may say), and chemically sterilizing the ones that are currently in captivity.

As for the comparison to fish, when alligator gars start forming long term close family groups, develop language, and develop the intelligence of a small child, come back to me. Until then, there is no comparison. And even keeping that analogy, I do support a ban, or a licensing requirement, for a good deal of fish. For instance, I don't think Petsmart should be allowed to sell Pacu to 8 year olds with a 10 gallon tank. Arapaima, have no business in this hobby at all.

Excatly. There is NO difference between whales kept in capitivity and fish keeping. At last the whales have good life, they can still do their agility that is reflected to the wild behavior.
