Anyone Try Heating An Outdoor Pond Through The Winter???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i dont live w my parents, i was just thinking about the heater my dad got for his house.

i havent built a pond yet but when my wife and i get our new house i will be setting up a pond 4sure

thanks for the pic! that gives me hope lol

funny you should bring up hot tubs, some sort of insulated cover for the pond would make this much more feasible since it would trap in the heat. Just a thought

Maybe i can just recess a big ol hot tub in the ground lol

I knew a guy that heated his pond with about 2,000ft of 1" pvc glued together with elbows and mounted to plywood panels on the roof of his house. The 10' sections were painted with a black solar paint? It looked like flat black to me. Anyway, he ran a circ pump and swore it kept the pond at 75F in the winter. The said contraption would gather UV from the sun and heat the water in the pipes like a rudamentary heat exchanger. He did say that when it got cold, if hendidnt keep the pump on, the water would freeze overnight. I dont know, maybe worth experimenting with?
I know water in black pipes can get near boiling.
Jus ma 2cents.

Build a greenhouse over it. *shrug* Much cheaper.

Trev I hope ur electric company is not like mine cuz my last electric bill was 917.66...I have only a 750 and 360 so I couldn't imagine what my electric bill would look like heating up an outdoor pond lol...Good luck if you do go through with this and I hope all goes well...

Boldtogether, I was going to mention a setup like that too. It's very similar to what a lot of people are using to head pools now. Yet another option.

Yes i like the green house idea too.

Thanks for all the comments guys i will deff be doing something in the future. First we have to move, then move all my tanks lol
