My new 750 gallon Monster Tank...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Believe me i do not like cleaning filter socks all the time but you need Mechanical filtration if you want crisp looking water if there is nothing taking small particals out your water will never be totally clear....You have to do what the tank needs to be satisfied......

Yeh your right....I'm going to order the new sump like craig's...

did you order the new sump? i run 50 micron 16" socks on the 2 setups we've discussed. WHEN you break down and get the correct sump, your troubles will be over. a better sump with a more powerful return pump and you there.

I'm going to order the new sump soon just have to take care of a few more bills....And hopefully I will be on my way....

what's the filtration setup for your 750? That stock has to be putting out a ton of waste.

My fish are putting out tons of waste thats for sure....I'm going to be buying a brand new sump so I can clear up my water...My water quality has finally cycled but now its just about polishing it until I get my new sump...Along with adding drip plates i'm going to use filter pads and floss to polish and catch the waste for the mean time...

If you want a cleaner and more efficient sump go w/ filter socks. Make sure the socks are easy to install and take out. With the stock you have it will benefit you and your fish more to use filter socks. They are much easier to put in and take out of a sump...if designed correctly. And they are washable....thus giving you years of use from just one sock.( You can order them in bulk really cheap through mcmasters.com). Being able to switch out your mech filtration w/ clean socks daily or during each wc is much healthier than having filter pads in there for extended periods of time just collecting waste and sitting in the sump.

I totally agree with you on the filter socks I was just going to do filter pads as a temporary thing till I can afford to buy my new filtration setup lol...I'm going to start planning on how I will have my sump setup so I can change out my filter socks easily...

Here are a few updated photo's of my clarity of my water...It has cleared up a whole lot but I'm still getting the new sump...

That is some fly arse stock! Lets see some pics of the current sump. I bet you can incorporate some socks in there. Its not that hard. You just have it so the intake to the sump(water coming for the overflows...duh), pours through the socks as it enters the sump. Have you thought about also maybe adding a type of bead filter? Kendragon has a TON of knowledge on filtration etc....he has a filter full of glass that is that type that seems to work wonders. id add that as well as socks to the sump and call it golden. maybe add more ceramic media to the sump as well.

Thanks man...If u only saw the little space that I have in my sump unless I reconstruct the one I have....I have around 150lbs of just ceramic rings in the sump...I have 2 milk crates of bioballs and I have a ultima 1000 hooked up...I will post a few pics of my sump but there not that great of pics...

I have 4 milk crates in there 2 filled to the top with bioballs and 2 filled to the top with ceramic rings...On top of that I have ceramic rings all throughout the sump....I don't have any drip plates to catch the waste before it hits the Japanese mats so the waste is just falling right through it...
