One of my guys decided the 55 gallon tank was in the way so he emptied it. I didn't realize he had emptied it for a few hours, which gives the vinyl time to clear up. It did appear somewhat cloudy, but I can't say definitively. But judging by the fact that it clouded up when pressed against plexiglass on the small tank, I assume the same would be true with glass and acrylic.

I think it is time to abandon the thought of containing the vinyl aquarium in a nice rigid box. I feel good about the other models though. I can't wait for my plumbing die is finished, so I can plumb up some remote tanks.
 
This was my weekend project. Yes, there are tiny fish in there. It is about 5 gallons in volume, but plumbed into my 65 gallon tank. The tubing attachment die worked great--my plumbing--not so great. Flexible pvc to rigid pvc solvent welds are not for the feint of heart.

The tank measures 1' x 2'

I've been very busy with pool liners lately so I haven't had time to mess around with the big tank. Maybe next weekend (gobble gobble).

That wall-mount is interesting: this starts opening the door for wall-mounting of filter systems, particularly planted systems. In the next iteration leave the top open with a ring or D-shaped rigid "mouth", maybe with a forward lean, so I can put gravel in the bottom and lilies or basil sticking out the top. With threaded 1/2" inlet/outlet bulkheads and strengthened hanging grommets at the top corners: I'd pay 30 or $50 for this easy. Make them with bulkheads on both sides so I can string a bunch of them in series along my wall. Come to think of it, put bulkheads at bottom towards the corners and sell with 2x 10" diffuser pipes that can be cut to desired length.
You are onto something very groovy here.

How 'bout a completely custom system where you tell me how wide, how many caps, how many ports, where you want the ports etc.

I'm not very happy with the cap as it is. I want the unit to be air tight, so it could be mounted below the level of the tank, but currently it is not reliably air tight. It may be a simple matter of creating a new gasket for it--hopefully that is the case.
