That's a bit overstated don't you think? Other then the synspilum and the tinfoils, severum or parrot would be pefectly fine in a 3 footer alone as adults. At the moment his Severum is 5", his parrot is 3" and his tinfoil is dead. If he removes the syn he can keep the other two for some time and then eventually choose one of them to keep.

Nope, I dont think its overstated at all. I answer posts in realistic, full grown terms. Otherwise, a dovii, butti, emperor, RD, Midas and 7 plecos could all go in a 55 (if they were fry, 2 months old, stunted, maimed, didnt eat, had an autochange water system etc etc etc...see how silly that is?).
A standard 37g tank is 30.25 L x 12.25 W x 22.75 H
I have seen HUGE severums before and feel that, even as sub adults, a 37 gallon tank is too small.
This isnt a knock on the OP, but if you also throw in the perceived experience that the OP has with fish (based on the question), I gave the appropriate answer.
Also, the amount of filtration needed to adequately house a fish that grows to the size of the severum in that tank would be sort of silly.
The tanks too small for any of the fish, unless of course, hes building/getting a 7 gazillion gallon tank like all the others on here that "were" getting a bigger tank too.
I guess that depends on what you think expensive is.
I found a 125 with stand. lights, lids and 3 ac110s for $175 on craigslist. Thats what Id call dirt cheap in the realm of tank/ equipment cost that it takes to get up and running.
You honestly need to do something ASAP if you dont want to see a quick decline of your fishes health as they grow, eat more and put out more waste.
Wow....what a deal! I bought a 100 gallon tank with a stand off a site for $400. Plus the lights($150) ect.
Yep, it was a good deal but I see stuff close to that often. IF you are near the city, there are always lots of good deals there.

IN realistic full grown terms a single 8-10" fish can live in 30x12x22" It has a living space of at least 3 times body size in lenght and more then 1 times body size in width which is more then enough to turn comfortably. It doesn't need an autochange drip system nor a crazy filtration. A single powerhead filter will have 10x turnover in that tank and with regular water changes of 30-50% weekly the water will be just as pristine as anyone elses. So no silliness required. It's not an ideal tank size but it's not bad at all either. If a pair of adult discus can be kept and breed in a 20 gal I don't see why a single severum can't be kept in a tank twice that size.
Would it be better to keep it in a bigger tank? Undoubtedly! But will it live a healthy and nomal life in this tank? Most definitely. If someone prefers to keep a single severum in a 100 gal, it's a personal preference, not a requirment.
As for keeping the two fish for a while and then getting rid of them, I don't see it's any different then keeping 6 GT's in a 125 when juveniles till you get a pair and sell the rest. That being said it is time to get rid of the synspilum my friend.
