I bought a little firemouth juvie for 2.99, and at first I was kind of dissapointed. As it was quarantined it hid if I even moved in my room, but now after quarantine, I put him in my main tank, and what a transformation! No more stress colors, swims everywhere, constantly sifting through sand, not camera shy. I'm really enjoying this fish! He seems really interested in the bichirs that I have in the tank, always following them and examining them. His colors are not great yet, but it does have a lot of blue spangling that I couldn't take a picture of. I'm hoping with a little TLC and a good diet it will bloom. It's amazing how just being with other fish how much it has changed, I guess dithers do more then I thought!

P.S. any way to sex this little firemouth at this age?

Spawned them once a couple months ago and then he killed his mate. Gave the male to a friend. Great fish.
 
Am I the only one that thinks this is not a Firemouth (T. Meeki)? Firemouth's will usually be exhibiting their markings at this age regardless of sex.

I am thinking this is another type of rarer Thorichtys. Gorgeous fish, by the way, I've always been a fan of the Thorichthys complex. Although I don't think this is a firemouth, you may have another type of gem on your hands.

I've seen a lot of FMs in the hobby lately without much red coloration. Might just be washed out from the white sand.

Other than the red, there's also not hardly any horizontal marking. I was just at my LFS last night and while their horizontal markings were very faded, they could still be seen
