The BEST Soups on Earth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been really in to corn chowder lately. Has the whole sweet/salty thing going on, especially if you get fresh seasonal corn. :)

Also, any of the French puréed soups with a cream base... Potato, leek, carrot, butternut squash, corn, etc. As long as the vegetable is fresh. Really simple and delicious.

My moms fish stew made with cod is my fav. Love pho, my fav spot is Phoa hoai. I also love a goot hot and sour soup!
Broc and cheese is pretty good as swell

My favs in order:

1. Bun Bo Hue(Homemade is always the best)

2. Banh Canh Hue (Vietnamese style Udons) I attached a picture because I know most people have no idea what it is.

3. Pho(I think its a bit overrated though because I would always get hungry after an hour of eating a bowl.)

All the soup pictures are making me hungry. Being 25 per cent Chinese I love all the Oriental cuisine (Soups)
I will have a soup tomorrow for lunch
thanks:drool:

Preparation

In a medium saucepan, bring the stock to a boil. Stir in the rice and cook until tender, about 8 to 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, beat the egg yolks and lemon juice together in a large bowl.
When the rice is tender, slowly ladle half of the hot broth into the yolks to temper them, whisking constantly. Whisk the egg yolk mixture into the broth and place over low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, just long enough to thicken the soup. Do not boil. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
add your own note

is this how you make it.

Yes, that's it. You need to be careful when adding the lemon, you need to do it slowly otherwise the egg curdles.

Where did you get this info from? You even had shrimps and crushed peanuts in there which is way wrong bud! Crushed bacon is not to be put on Pho, but other Vietnamese noodle soups. Are you sure you're talking about Pho there? lol

yes we are talking about the same pho here. i got my ingredients from experience, lol. i'm not vietnamese, but i think the bacon is my people's modified version of pho. you're the first guy to tell me shrimp and crushed peanuts is wrong though.

if it was wrong, tell that to every vietnamese restuarant in socal. in their menu, there is a seafood pho bowl also. and you can add shrimp to any bowl. also, at every table, there is a little cup of crushed peanuts along with the soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce and sriracha sauce. the crushed peanuts don't really alter the taste much so I don't see why it's so wrong.

can you elaborate on why shrimp and the peanuts is wrong?

This SOUP thread is getting WAY too serious... Someone call in kevin so we can get this thing locked!
No way....It's gotta be pretty close in seriousness to the Paterno thread before we have to resort to activating Kevin.
