Hey Guys.. Just thought of starting a thread for the new guys who are thinking of getting a new pair or BDs..

Here are some of the thing that we need to look out for before purchasing a BD..

1. All spots on the ray are to be pure white..

Even at a pup size of 6" BDs should have pure white spots.. Its is also recommended to pick up a stable and
conditioned ray.. The should be a yellowish spots..

2. Rows of spots.. Starting from the top of the head region.. A regular BD should have at least 5 rows of spots..
Those with the big spots are deemed a better grade.. (Depends on Region) Those with 6 rows are also deemed a higher
grade..
3. Skirt spots.. All BDs have one row of skirt spots.. with minimal or no breakoff.. almost evenly spaced out..
Note that skirt spots should be continous.. those with two rows are the BDs with 6 rows of sots..
Meaning 2 rows of skirting..
4. Most BDs have spots in thier eyes.. The more the merrier.. Which gives them the blue lense effect or blue eye term..

5. Spots around the eyes are also a indication of BDs.. The more the merrier.. As the age and grow into adults..
The eyes should be covered with white spots..
6. Flag tails.. all Pure BDs have flag tails and they should not be longer than the body length at any stage in thier
lives..
7. Underbelly spots.. Some BDS have under belly spotting.. Does not apply to all BDs.. those with have a higher grade..

A few Grades of BDs are Thousand spots BD , Eclipse , Big spots..

Hope this help any new BD owners.. And if u own a BD that carries all three features in grading..
One lucky Ray keeper!!

Chances are if people are willing to spend $5K -$8K on a pair of rays they're going to do plenty of homework on them.

Trying to set grading scales and whatnot is sure to just be a pile of differing opinions.

I've been looking for info like this, I'm a future BD owner, and I have no Idea what the differances are between the BD's this helps alot............

Thank you

Hi Ray'Oconner, you have a lot of BDs photo. Can you please post some more here? How you know they have belly spottings.

If you want to go to all the trouble to "help" people understand "BDs" and all the BS associated with them then you need to post links to all the threads that predate this thread, go back several years and introduce everyone to the OPINIONS that started it all.

See I read this as you know all this to be fact when in reality BD is nothing more then a collection point. That's it. There is no criteria. There is nothing but opinion and unfound fact.

There's hybrids out there that are NOT from Sao Felix that posses all the here say signs that only the "true BD" should have.

Wanna know how to tell? Get a reliable trustworthy source to get the rays from firsthand and you're done.

IF you're a future BD owner that's willing to drop $2-4K on a ray without doing a lil homework then I'd be looking at the real source of the problem, cause it has nothing to do with rays or hobbies.

Just like art it doesn't friggin matter if 2/3 MFKers say it's "BD". ALL that matters is the ray is worth the asking price to you the buyer.

Half the reason true hobbyists leave this sight is the simple fact that there's so much avoidable drama here it isn't even funny. Threads like this are a perfect example. If one "expert" says a "BD" isn't a BD then someone got ripped off and the person selling the ray is a thief.
