I have a tank in my brothers garage w/ a few heater in it.....its not that bad. ANd its only 6 degrees up here this morning. Insulate the back and sides of the tank and it would stay warm pretty easy. I think its mostly gettn the tank to the desired temp. Do a large wc w/ hot water and add some heaters.

Shack is insulated. Believe me, I've explored every option you can think of to heat it, but all of the options are too expensive right now. It doesn't get quite as cold as up in Tahoe, but the forecast calls for a low of 29F tonight.

I am really curious to see how often the heaters would have to cycle once I get it up to 78F...they might not come on as often as I'm guessing if I insulate the tank really well. Anyone local not using a big heater they would be willing to loan me for a month to test it out? :naughty:
Come on i been watching Man ya gotta pay if ya want em simple as that:naughty::naughty::popcorn::popcorn:You got the Green are ya willen to spend it that is the million doller Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????????

How do you start the siphon on your gravel vac? Is it hard to do on a siphon that big? I'm interested in building something like that, but don't know if it's difficult to start. I have a standard python and the small hose doesn't flow very fast.

Yeah, I know insulation is key. what size is your brothers tank and how many watts is he running on it?

Property Tax, Home Insurance, DMV registration, Christmas and a cold spell that has forced me to run my pool pumps in order to prevent tham from freezing have hit my pocketbook pretty hard this month. How many watts are you running to heat your tank? You still have it setup in the garage, right?

I just suck on the end of it to start the siphon...it takes a bit more effort than starting a siphon on a standard python, but it's not hard to start. The amount of water I can empty out of the tank with my 1.5" tubing is pretty amazing. A Python would take hours.

The SF Bay Area is quite cold. Today was 28 degrees in the morning. Aquarium heaters are always on which will turn lead to a very high electricity bill.
