I don't know which forum to put this into so I decided that I should just try asking around in general discussion. My 55 gallon tank that has been up and running for over a year has suddenly come down with a huge case of small bubbles. I have no idea what is causing it. It's a 55 overflow into a 30 gallon wet/dry. I don't have an air system since the water gains its oxygen by falling down and being pumped back up. The water params are fine, Ammonia is 0, nitrites is 0 and nitrates < 5.

Not really sure about the bubbles, but I'll take a guess.

If you added freshwater tap into the tank, this can cause the bubbles. This can be caused by chemicals such as chloramine oxidising with your tank water.

Are the bubbles on anything below water level (fish, decorations, etc.)?

The bubbles are floating around the whole tank. It's making the whole tank look almost cloudy. It's not like the bubbles after a water change. These are super small and are floating around at all water levels.

There's air entering your filtration plumbing somewhere. The first thing I would do is check your fittings from you overflow box all way to the returns. A hose may have come a little loose and air is being "pulled" into the hose similar to a venturi system on a powerhead. Even though the fittings may seem tight, the hose walls can compress over time and allow air into the system. Most likely isn't on the return side since those fitting would most likely leak due to pressure - but check them anyway. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads-up, I'm gonna check that out.
