What do you guys think about using centrum liquid multivitamin?

Also, thought about using garlic powder. The same stuff you cook with (for flavor and garlic properties). Thoughts on that?

You can use centrum vitamins but they are not absorbable so you might as well grind some rocks up and put in the food. Garlic powder is okay. I use the nutrition packs from the product I sent you in my homemade food because I know it is absorbable and has just about every nutrient in it.

Ok, now I know this is an old thread, but I recently found it and used it to make my own homemade gel food... aros/rays/cats loved it (most important to me because one of my prized aros is quite picky). Dats ate some, but mostly just mouthed it. Pbass mouthed it, but didn't eat much... azuls may have eaten some, but they eat anything lol.

Here's my recipe:

- 8 ounces fish fillet (happened to be amber jack - caught it a while back and wanted to use it before it got too old)
- 7 handfuls of varying pellets (3 massivore (their fave of course), 2 ken's big sinking, 2 ken's carn wafers)
- 2 capfuls of vitachem
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 2 cups of hot water
- 6 packets of knox gelatine

My buddy said it looks like brownies... that's parchment paper that it's on (also used press 'n seal to keep the smell out of the fridge)

Pizza cutter works wonders on this stuff (like previsouly posted it bounces when dropped on the floor lol)

Made enough to fill about 2-1/2 of these sandwich meat containers.

Garlic powder used for flavor and all that's good about GARLIC! Mmmmm....

All in all, this was a success. Great way to sneak in garlic and vits to my fishes' diet. Also, a good way to use up some of these pellets that I've accumulated that my fish seem to not enjoy in pellet form :). I'm sure my dats and pbass, etc will come around and begin eating this stuff. Especially, if this is all that I feed them. I had an old blender, pizza cutter, baking pan so this gel food isn't touching our "good" stuff. This will end up being extremely economical for me due to my excess supply of pellets that aren't being used and the higher prices of seafood in my area. Next, I may add some veggie material like spinach or spirulina if I can find some that's not too expensive.

Any other suggestions for "add-ins"????

CHEERS!!!

2nd batch:

- 8 ounces fish fillet
- 1 SOLO cup full of varying pellets
- 2 capfuls of vitachem
- 2 cloves of fresh garlic
- 2 cups of hot water
- 6 packets of knox gelatine

I upped the pellets a bit and added slightly more water. Also, substituted the garlic powder with fresh garlic cloves. The benefits of fresh garlic are so much better!

this is what I use Seachem Nourish

The ingredients for this looks to be mainly water with spirulina and chlorella and what looks to be preservatives.. might be more beneficial and economical to use a teaspoonful of spirulina powder in place of the nourish. I also use fresh garlic cloves in place of your garlic guard. Seems that the seachem stuff is simply to add flavor (no real health benefits).

i made a batch last night and fed to my ray today and he loves it

Ingredients:
1/8th cup of NLS med fish formula
4oz of tilapia
10 small shrimp
3 packets of knox gelatin
1.25 cups of water

it didn't make the largest batch of food in the world but with a small retic, it will take a while to go through the food

Everyone in the tank is now eating the gel food quite voraciously :)
Just ordered 1 lb of spirulina and 1 lb of chlorella (both in powder form). I'm not sure exactly how much I'll be adding to my batches, but I'm thinking along the lines of 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of each. Suggstions???
