What are these guys temperament like? Could either work in a 125 with two severums, some silver dollars and polypterus? I am looking for an interesting stand out fish. Thanks

The blue Dempsey would do much better with that combination then the Red Texas. Red Texas in my experience have always been extremly aggressive like a Flowerhorn.

blue jack dempsey

In a tank that size, The dempsey would have a better shot of being friendly towards the other fish. The RT is a big gamble. I've seen people keep them in community tanks with polys. The only thing my RT tolerated were polys as well. IMO a quality RT beats an EBJD in looks hands down.

A Blue Dempsey would most likely hide most of the time.Mine hides usually, but if he doesn't like a certain cichlid at all, he has no issues of fighting.

My male EBJD never hid, he was like a big puppy. Always begging for food. They are all different though

There is no definitive answer in fish keeping all you can do is try and see how they act.

You have to keep in mind that most ebjd are junk. You could luck out but the odds aren't good.
