Need a little info on Argentea, Regani, Maculicauda (black belt)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive bought from Gage a couple times and couldnt be happier. If he had the other fish ive bought in stock when i bought them i would have bought them from him.

Do you guys think I should leave the lights off until they get a bit more comfortable? I haven't turned 'em on since they've been in the tank.

I have a 9-10" Argentea by himself in a 55g. I got him at 2-3" and grew him out with others in my 265g... he was always one of the lesser aggressive fish in the tank and would get picked on by my Black Black and some others too. Recently I added some smaller fish to the 265g and the Argentea needed to be moved as he was chasing after all the smaller fish. I put him, a 7.5" Grammode and 5" Escondido in the 55g and came home from work a couple weeks ago to find the Escondido shredded (has since recovered) and the Grammodes side tore wide open (died). So, I guess you never really know??

Turn on the lights for a few hours and see how they react. I try not to alter my lighting schedule on my tanks unless its necessary. Again, these are two 2" fish in a very large tank without any other fish. They may still hide for a while since they are also new to the tank. You should start your own thread though. You wouldn't want to take away from Nexxus' questions and comments.

i can understand him not being aggressive in the 265g but the 55g is probably just way too small for those three fish. the argentea probably thinks that whole tank is his territory now and wont accept anything else in that small of a tank

thank gruff! i try not to change my lighting schedule to unless i absolutely HAVE to. i dont think many sp. of fish would feel more comfortable with the light out other than maybe catfish. ( just my opinion ) if fish are stressed they will be stressed lights out or on.

Everyone on here always told me how aggressive Argentea were, but I would just point to mine and say how mine was on the bottom of the pecking order. My Argetnea is some what a punk... he runs from anything his size, but will kill anything smaller than him. I know the 55g was too small, but it was only going to be for a very short time. When they were in the 265g I got rid of my Black Belt because he was beating up the Argentea... now the Argentea needs to be kept seperate from the other fish. Anyway, I feel they are both underrated as far as aggression goes. They both get pretty big too!!

All Vieja seem to be hit and miss as far as compatability goes. I've seen it go both ways and experienced it myself. If there's one guy it works for, there's another guy it didn't. Best of luck bro!
