New sump water return question.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is the stock we're thinking about for the tank right now:5 tin foil barbs5 bala sharks3 or 4 assorted gouramis.3 or 4 long finned rosy barbs (maybe)2 Raphael catfish2 pictus catfishAnd maybe an ornate Birchir or two....This is just a rough idea and may seem overstocked, but changes will be made before fish are introduced. Also, what kind of cleaner animals could I add to this set up? Someone told me viper shrimp would be a good idea.

thats quite a bit of bioload. I'd go with the biggest pump your setup can handle, or stock lighter. the Tinfoils and Balas will get really big eventually

We can post pics after the sump is built tonight. Thanks.

cool. Then we can take a look and figure a good pump gph that wont exceed your overflow setup

Soo we went to get the tank for our sump at Percocet (they have a dollar per gallon sale). They didn't have a 40 gallon tall.. So.. We got a 55 gallon! So it's gonna be a 55 gallon sump. I'm drawing up pics, about to go pick up some silicone then start assembly! I will post up pics of the design and the overflow in a minute to get feedback on what size pump we should get. The 55 gallon sump will be awesome for this tank, and we plan on upsizing toa larger aquarium later- so we can move upand still have a beast sump.

nice move. The bigger the sump the better. The thread in my sig shows my setup and approach to sumps. Certainly not the only way to go about it by any means, but something to consider beforehand. One of the few I've built that I wouldn't change anything about.....

Best of luck with your build! Look forward to the progress
