Is sand a good substrate for pacu\oscar tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its a great substrate. just beware of your filters intake lvl.

i may go with the pool sand.. im taking that i can get it from pool supply stores?

I have a ton of aragonite sand. Would this be a bad sand to use for fw stingrays?

Thanks and sorry for the hijack.

lol no problem id like all the info i can get about all kinds of different subtrate sand.

My guess is the aragonite sand would harden the water, which I would think the Stingrays would need softer water. My tap water is already hard as is. Might have to invest in more RO/DI if I wanted to do rays with this sand.

Is there any sand that wouldn't harden the water much? Would the pool sand from home depot act differently and be ray safe?

thanks

PFS over here costs $28.00/50 lbs. so I settled for this, $8.25/100 lbs. at HD. Very fine but sinks fast and you have to rinse it really good. I have 3 oscars BTW. No filter problems so far.

Do they have different colors of sand available? I wouldn't mind having a black sand substrate. I think it would pop the rays colors nicely.

What do you mix with the quikrete to make cement? Is it just water?
