Breeding... and hybrids. hystrix x motoro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i dont see why it would work one way but not the other. did diggen say it was easy to see the movement on a prego hystrix?

and too bad we dont have a stingray hybrid subforum...

I wonder if rays either male or female are only able to produce so much "good" juice/eggs in their lifetime. I know certain cichlids can produce fry so many times then they just stop. Genetics must play a part in it too.

Im not sure how old these rays are but if you think about it, humans can have so many children before it becomes difficult. Does this make sense? lol I know i'm rambling but its a thought

I know i just compared cichlids and rays to humans lol :screwy:

Nice hybrids , not FH MUTT JUNK

Not to derail, but if this were about crossing two pure species of cichlids, it would still get dumped into the hybrid forum. A ray hybrid is the same as any other hybrid. It's not nice, or better, than any other mutt around. Reality check.

That said, I hope your rays have some pups you can enjoy.

sorry but there is fish keeping.... then there is ray keeping. we keep rays and post in the ray section. the hybrid section wouldnt know what to do with our posts so we keep them where they belong.

thanks for stopping by.

The adult male marble I have has been around the block, I am I think the 5th owner of him and he has been in captivity for I think 15+ years and was WC to begine with. With that being said, he just fathered a little that was born about a month ago and I think has a few more of my girls knocked up. If he is still a viable breeder I doubt they run out :)

Good questions Keepin. I wonder if the females just aren't ready yet? You've had them for just over 3 years?

i have had them for 3 years now. One of them was a 3.5-4" er. the other was a 6"er. i would guess they have to be 3.5-4 years old now.

They have to be ready....right? We will see what happens when a mature male hystrix enters the tank.

Do females take longer to mature than males and does it depend on the species for them to reach maturity? I got both my WC marbles 28 months ago @ 5" so I estimate their age at 2.5 years or so. Male is fully mature now for 3-4 months. Nothing yet here. I figured maybe she isn't mature enough. I find minor nips here and there on her but that could just be from nipping during feeding.
