And yes you need bubbles for your freshwater tank to oxygenate the water and for bacteria amd ammonia exchange. Imo more bubbles the better! Walmart sells an aquatec dual outlet bubbler for 15$ and it pushes alot of air! And if you want a good easy and effiecent canister RENA FILSTAR XP4! OR EVEN XP3! Remember to not clean the bio media cuz u need it to start seeding ur new rena asap!

I use a fx5 , XP4 , AC110 , and a emperor 400 on my 125 , it is probably overkill but it keeps everything clean and circulated. The 400 really does a good job at agitating the water surface , the rena was cheap and works really well for the price, the AC 110 is really easy for carbon or purigen use. And the FX5 moves and filters a lot of water. Hope this helps , you could probably get by with one of the HOB's and one of the cannisters in a 125 but the more filtration the better IMO

Thanks. You have a fx5 and a XP4. Double canister for a 125 gallon tank? I can afford to purchase one of them down the road a bit. If I get a FX5 canister can I keep both emperor 400's (HOB) filters running?

Yeah a Fx5 would work great with 2 400's, I work 7 days and I Am home for 7 that is the real reason I have 2 cannisters, incase 1 fails while I am away.

Mine is quiet but there are mixed reviews on the fx5 , I really like mine.
