Need Experts Advice. Motoro Stingray dying.

Weight Issue: You guys are right, he's a little thin right now, and so you know, its been that way for about 2 months now. He's slowed on the eating. He use to eat 2 silversides a day (and was plenty fat), but has been less interested in eating. He still eats around 1 silverside a day. I provide a large mix of food to try to stimulate eating, bloodworms, ghost shrimp...etc. You guys are not wrong about him being thin, but his owner is taking care of him. :)

1-2 silversides sounds like an extremely small amount of food for a ray that is two years old.

Hey thanks man, just so you know, the silver-sides I've been feeding him are huge, not tiny little ones. There about 2.5" to 3.5" long. And when he was eating that much he was fat and healthy. :)

Update:

Well, its been about 12 hours since I found him injured. He's still alive but not moving much and obviously will not eat right now. I'll keep you guys posted and I appreciate all of you for your support.

I'm going to offer a controversial suggestion that I may be flamed for. I have brought a ray out of death curl. Every time it hadn't moved at all for a period of time, I would gently hit it with the handle of a long net. I have no idea whether this had anything to do with the ray recovering or not. It certainly doesn't square with the whole "avoid stress" theory, but seeing as the whole "keep the water clean and the lights off" so rarely works in these circumstances, I just thought I'd throw this out as a suggestion.

Your the first I've heard that had brought one back out if the death curl! Nice job! I can't say I put much stock in your method (although perhaps those occasional adrenaline boosts helped the ray) but I'm just glad to hear its possible.

after hearing of you adding the salt straight to the tank instead of dissolving it into a bucket of water beforehand, it definitely sounds like the reason for the dark burned looking patch.

never never never add salt straight in. salt does not dissolve fast enough before hitting the bottom of the tank and fish in its path. salt must always be dissolved into an outside container of water before adding. i think it even says that in the directions on the side of the box (if you were using the overpriced store bought aquarium salt).

the salt could be having a massive reaction. if it hit all over that part of the disc, it's very close to the spiracle. the ray could have gotten some undissolved salt inside of it too, causing its internal structure immediate damage and stress.

i had something similar happen when mine deathcurled, but not from prodding. whenever brand new water was put into the QT tank, the ray would flatten out. then within a couple of hours would curl up again.

Update: Hey guys. Woke up this morning to a dead ray. Totally sucks. Poor guy. I feel like such an idiot over the salt. Believe it or not the box says nothing about it or gives any warning. I started aquarium keeping with this stingray, so I didn't know of the danger. I never would have added salt to the tank like that. Sigh.

Thank you for all you're help and input.
