thanks for the info. wow.. if they were all dead. i think the problem probably ran deeper than just not being able to get them to breed. here in the us, the only place that may have a chance establishing a breeding farm is probably florida and hawaii. and even then i think you need a mud pond to get the best result.

Ya Florida and hawaii's climate would have a higher successful rate. Ya west coast koi's attempt was a devastating tradegy. Our local fish community all knows about it well most of us do but not many of us bring it up especially to the owner of the koi farm.

Agreed... you should see the prices for nice Aro's in Hong Kong... i've seen certain species go for over HKD $200,000 or about USD $25,000+ for 1... so i don't think them being legal has anything to do with price...

In jan 2012 I was in HK and I saw a 2+ ft red Asian aro with a price tag of $188000 HKD at one lfs on fish street. That's $24000 CAD after conversion! But it was super nice.

i can see the US haveing higher prices at 1st if legalized but once the craz is over it would drop to about the same as the canadian market..
like many fish aros have many diff grades and brand names.. also very diff from ordering fish you can see parents of, with aros they have 20-30 in each pond for breeding and can have a few hold at once and then put together in the same tank(is sizes are about the same).. some farms are harvesting every 1 or 2 days.. i have talk to farms that sell red for $300 - unlimited price depending on quality and some farm dont sell fish under 10" so they can grade them, they go for 2k + with a min order of 20pcs then shipping 1 per box plus cites,taxes and profit to be made they would still run about 4k - 5k and up.. some farms dont sell unless you order 100pcs @ 5-7''

i think breeding aros can be done but wont be at all easy.. ppl do breed in cement pond in asia but mud ponds deffinitly the way to go..
i deffinitly wanna try with a pack of 10-15 goldbase xbacks oneday.. im gonna have them might as well try the worst that can happen is they dont breed and i still get to enjoy them lol

it's different in asian and here. to us a 1000$ fish is alot of money and probably hesitate to spend the money but in asian people buy fish at 10,000$ with no hesitation. they value it differently than we do here.
