Don't have to worry about them being bred. I can't breed rays My Marble colony proves that.
Everything about them seems different to me. I knew someday all my Jag pics would come in handy. To me (in my opinion) the eyes, tail, mouth size, and disk shape are different from the Jag I had.
They have indeed been a true test. I really didn't know if I was even going to be able to save them when I first laid eyes on them. Most of the Marbles I've put on ice were fatter then these things when they got here. Now this might make sense why I get so fired up about the vendor head hunts. Its that VERY reason that these aren't openly offered to everyone. We as hobbyists must tread very lightly as to the way business is handled or the vendors are simply not gonna offer rare fish like these to us. Why mess with crybabies in the US when these things sell like hot cakes to people that are willing to happily hand over money, not care what they cost, not care what they look like, and buy them up till gone year after year.
The only thing I hoard is my un Marble pics. There's always a ray or 2 (or 3 in this case) at my place that haven't had thier pics posted. When the next one shows up then I post pics of the last.
It's almost comicle to listen to the reactions. It's either not really what I think it is, a hybrid "mutt", or overpriced. I'm sure the next "mutt" will be just as fun.
Congrats on bringing them back to a more healthy state. Nice Castexi , had a few myself.
FYI There is a difference between rare, rare due to importation ban and rarely imported due to the large size a ray can get. Pretty sure there is more then one elusive brown ray to add to your list of brown rays.
