hma filter with kdf media

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i use a HMA 3 chambers the 1st sediment the last 2 carbon the last 2 are diffent types of carbon i think one is normal carbon the other coconut carbon

no need to mess with the filter just use the cartrigess that come with it and you buy as replacements

i have been running mine 24/7 changing 200 gal per day with no problems i change the cartriges every 3 months

i see you are from the uk i use collins water products they are cheaper than most

thanks for the info . it looks like the one in the link is coconut carbon and kdf . does the one you use have the same coconut / kdf mix or is yours coconut carbon only ?

3 chambers

the 1st is like a pre filter
the next 2 i have no idea which is which but one is coconut carbon

they are color coded red and blue

i dont know the difference of the colours either. my reason for asking about kdf is that ive been considering buying an hma filter for some time but after reading about them i wonder if i should use the coconut and kdf media in one chamber or if i should use gac (granular activated carbon) instead along with the prefilter and the carbon block .

my reason for asking about experiences is that after reading that kdf media is very good at removing impurities from water its (as far as i know ) made from an alloy of copper and zinc. ... and as far as i know copper is bad for rays and even lethal. so i wonder if people are using kdf with rays and if there are any effects.

maybe my sources are wrong and there is no copper in kdf or maybe im right and nobody knows or maybe the copper in the kdf makes no difference and its fine to use .

thats why im here i guess, to get clarification from people who have experience with kdf and rays :)

I just go on what I have found and a HMA filter from the link I posted does all I need it to do so why change anything

All the home made systems I have no time for when you can buy a off the shelf unit that does what I need it to do its not even that expensive

And the HMA works under water mains pressure something a home made system may do with work but again the HMA is cheap so why bother

thanks for the reply t1 but look at the link you posted above for collins water products ( http://collinswaterproducts.co.uk/pr...386d352b1577ba ). look at stage 3 of the hma filter, it contains *** KDF *** and coconut carbon.

kdf media is a modern filtration method that contains copper according to this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kdf-55

copper as far as i know is bad for rays and is the reason im enquiring about it and to see if anyone is using it with rays knowingly or unknowingly

Seems T1 may be using it without problem then

I use the 3 chamber Hma c (the c does chloramine) from devotedly discus, I am in my second year without problems with my rays.

intresting but like i said i have been running it for over 2 years now and im on my 3rd litter of pups so it cant be that bad

i think the KDF if thats what it is placed before the normal activated carbon which should remove the copper at the final stage

i maybe wrong but it works fine for me and i wont be changing anything

thanks t1. i wasnt sure if people were using the non kdf version or if they were using the kdf one if they had noticed anything.

that clears it up though. if they have been breeding then it cant be that bad and as you say the carbon in the filter most likley removes any remaining copper. ill just have to remember to keep replacing them regularly just in case :)

thanks again for the reply, most helpful :-)
