I just heard this from a custom tank maker in my area. He said a customer had a $3000 pair of black diamonds in a 6 foot tank, but the width was only 2 ft. The owner had them for a while, then they died and the owner blamed the lack of width. Now the owner is having this guy make him a decked out 8x4x2 acrylic 450 gallon so he can get new rays.
The tank is going to be built on site in a basement.
I had previously thought my dream tank was 72x36x24, but if I'm ever going to keep more than retics, it seems like maybe I need to rethink. How do you even source a tank larger than 36 inches wide? How could you get it in a house without a sliding glass door? Properly housing for life, larger species is big work. I really respect those here who offer truly appropriate homes for large rays.
