oscar tankmates! need help on what to choose!

are the bichirs active. im scare to buy them since they would just hide all day only come out at night! this true cause i see on youtube sometimes they are hiding sometimes very active swimming eveywhere! thats the kinda fish i would want. so are they active?
ah just remmemberd about how i ahve to cycle the ****in tank! this takes 10days -4 weeks! ****!!!!!!!!!!!! is it easy to do the cycling process o and how do u clean rocks and plants ? i know how to do the gravel and wall but how uyou clean wood and all those bumpy surfaces as whne i had 10 gallon i couldnt scrub all algea off plus took to long
It is relatively easy if you use the method described on this page: http://www.myfishtank.net/articles/fishless-cycle/ And for cleaning, most people either just leave them alone (which is what I do), or they use some sort of brush (e.g. a toothbrush) to scrub off the rocks, and use a bleach solution (not sure of what concentration they use) for the plants.
realiosing about how much its easier to take care of fish im getting rather than bird im getting holy cow. the bird i was going to get you had too clean cage and play with it every day 2 hours. its like having a big huge reef tank if you get bird but clenaing everything different but still very hard. yeah though i dont want to get to frustrated what to buy and over think this im going to buy now with out anymore threads the tiger oscar simple cool to look at but am worrie dit will sit around n be lazy wen older behind rocks
