Thanks for the post. The fish are still doing great and you are correct, while they were very skittish as juvies they have grown into themselves and are much more open to when you walk near the tank. They don't get nearly as dark while feeding as before so they're setting in nicely. I believe the smaller one may have had a mild case of fin rot as his fins are a little misshaped but coming in much better. These fish are growing extremely fast and I truly believe that it has to do with the weekly water changes done 50-80%. I have had extremely well results with this routine and recommend it to anyone who may be toying with new ideas/procedures regarding maintenance.when cichla are small they are also kind of timid and jumpy it may not have a thing to do with the tank it may be they just arent used to people yet i agree they dont look unhealthy they just look a bit dark the fore head is the tell tale dark color either way im sure they will settle in just fine
