Payara ID, Armatus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Note: The Tat is much older and larger than the new guys so fin size is iffy, considering the new guys are smaller and have near the same size fins that should account for something?
Hes about 2 inches longer and much thicker top to bottom.

You have an armatus... People still looking for a tiny detail "white tip" and forgot to look at the whole big picture...

do they fight? looks like both are missing some scales. and they all still look like tats to me lol

jln, why do you say armatus? not only the white tip, but the head shape looks like a tat to me. hell, just to get the point across, my tat had some serious whitening on it's fins but im sure it's a tat

regardless OP, you'll know soon enough.. armatus grows faster and has a more solid attitude than tats do

they fight all the time, my tat is the most aggressive fish ive ever owned, even bites my alligator gar on occasion (he thinks hes an armatus haha)
The new guys fight back aswell but they mostly keep to themselves, still very juvi. yeah well, like you said ill find out soon enough based off growth rate, how much do armatus grow per month?

about an inch. tats..max of 1/2"

im trying to find this picture of all three main subspecies, their body is blacked out and only shows the shapes.. they're all noticeably different and helps a lot with IDs..

Yeah i know which one your talking about, ive seen it before, these guys are still juvenile tho so they wont start thickening out for a little so still gonna be hard to ID

You could notice the difference between the one in 2nd picture to the one in 3rd picture. Tat body has orange/red color, while Armatus has silver/slight yellow color.
Tat and Armatus are equally "aggressive." However, Armatus growth rate is faster, so eventually, you may want to separate them
