I'm not knocking the kid because he is enthusiastic enough but I think this is a case of have to see it to believe it. Sounds more to me like a young kid posting his dreams online which is fine, but not to be taken too seriously. I hope he proves me wrong and gets his dream tank, we'll see.

Ya, hopefully I can prove you all wrong from doubting me... I'm very looking forward to doing this. Also very involved with it. I'll be putting aside ALL my money for this. I'm not just some kid who wants to do this. I am trying as hard as I can to build this tank.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying for the waterproofing that I am a good painter and supposodely this ZAVLAR stuff is just like paint. So it shouldn't be hard at all. uarajoey on YouTube says that if its not the easiest thing to do for the DIY tank then its one of the easiest things

You've never done a true coating, have you? I hope you realize a lot of the builders have had problems with leaks. There's a huge difference between painting and a true coating.

Still just plan very very carefully how to seal that tank good and proper if you do it...
Also, i hate to admit it, but i really hope you can prove us wrong, as it seems your dad is still some what in the dark about how much this whole tank will cost to build / run...

Also, not to sound rude, but it seems the idea of repect hes hoping to gain from this tank is getting a little to his head preventing him from considering anything other than his 500G tank build... As in won't really consider something like a 250G

Oh no I'm not saying I need the respect. I'm saying it would be nice to get some respect for my actions. Building this tank will do just that. But I want to build this tank as I NEED it for my stock. This tank can also house my full dream stock!

I have not ever done a full coating. That's why I'm doing a scale model first. Probably going to be like 20 gallons. Then ill move up from there. I'll go from the 20 to like a 200 and ill make the 200 a sump. So ill need a couple thousand dollars.

I assembly lighting domes and parts for hospitals all over the world, yet I wouldn't want to give building a 500G tank a shot for my first ever build, I dont doubt you can make a box and paint, Its more the sheer pressure thats going to be pushing on the sides and the way I see it if you do make a little mistake or miss a 2mm area with the coat it will most likely pop right open with that pressure.
Also I dont think wood is going to be so costly, I would be trying to source down a cheap/2nd hand panel for the viewing area, I read another poly tank yesterday and he got his second hand for $450 so your going to be looking at 600+ new, you wouldn't want that to crack.
Anyways I really hope you can get this working.
