I assembly lighting domes and parts for hospitals all over the world, yet I wouldn't want to give building a 500G tank a shot for my first ever build, I dont doubt you can make a box and paint, Its more the sheer pressure thats going to be pushing on the sides and the way I see it if you do make a little mistake or miss a 2mm area with the coat it will most likely pop right open with that pressure.

Also I dont think wood is going to be so costly, I would be trying to source down a cheap/2nd hand panel for the viewing area, I read another poly tank yesterday and he got his second hand for $450 so your going to be looking at 600+ new, you wouldn't want that to crack.

Anyways I really hope you can get this working.

The glass panel Is roughly $180. That's with glasscages. Like I stated before, my one uncle owns a hardware store and he can get me glass cheap.

Oh no I'm not saying I need the respect. I'm saying it would be nice to get some respect for my actions. Building this tank will do just that. But I want to build this tank as I NEED it for my stock. This tank can also house my full dream stock!

No offense, but you dont NEED a 500G for your current stock you have, but more would like to have one for what you want to keep...

I can imagine thats what you must be telling your dad right now to get a larger tank?

Probably. I know I "needed" all $50,000 of my music equipment I talked my dad into buying me. ;)

Ya I told my dad that I need a bigger tank for my fish. And I need a bigger tank for the fish I'm gonna get too. My dad actually wants the tank. He wants to see some large aggressive fish. And he thinks it will look awesome! He was the one who suggested I get a tank in my basement this large

Dont get me wrong, i was a kid once and know how the game works with parents...

Now im not saying this wont happen, but i've heard so many similar stores in the past where the parents say one thing and end up doing another...

With instuments, its 50K but then there isnt really many on going running costs in the long run... Even lessons would only last so long, but fish keeping is a long term commitment you cant just put down coz your bored...

And it seems like a big dream for a youngster (not that theres snything wrong with that) but i think sometimes being a little more realistic helps in the long run when you have to rely on money from parents still...

He said he wants to show it off to all his friends when they come over for our annual barbeque. He thinks "it'll be great for going down there and looking at the fish, watching sports, and drinking beer." His words not mine lol

I won't get "bored" with any of my fish. I have always been extremely fond of all types of animals. Ever since I was little. I gurantee I won't get "bored" with the fish hobby. I find fish to be one of the most intriguing living animals out there! Great to keep and to watch

Trust me, there's ongoing costs at this level. I spend $200/year/amp on tubes alone. That's just the amps, but I get the point you're trying to make. I still doubt his dad is going to be happy with an investment THIS large that's going to only last 4 years and never show a good/any return.
