Only just found this thread and its a great read..Community tanks are great but i have to admit when the one i currently have has run its course i will be going back to single or paired tanks (quite a few years off of course). I find that single fish tanks have the edge in interaction between you and your livestock but thats just my experience. I really enjoy my community but iv found the key to success is being ready to do whats best for the community and not what you want to see in the tank, if you have a trouble maker but it happens to be your favorite fish you still have to pull it out and move it to another tank, the same as a fish thats being bullied by the rest, its not going to magically stop. Essentials for my tank are a good devider, beleive me that will be a life saver, large silver dollars, my tank seems to go mental if i have to move these guys out for any reason and a close eye on whats going and be ready to act if something is.
My tank is 240g
inhabitants are
1x 11' jag
1x 9' trimac
1x 8' texas
1x 6' polleni
1 pair of convicts
4x 5' silver dollars
The trimac and texas are a pair and currently have week old fry swimming round, the divider is up but only to protect the fry as there was no agression..The stock of my tank has changed a bit over time to the point its at now, iv had a mayan that was bullied that was rehomed, a red devil that was rehomed because of aggression and a few others that have had to be moved around so its not all just fallen into place but by working at it, i believe i am now reapin gthe rewards of a happy CA community tank
