Went fishing today!

Aside from everything already said in this thread...native fish take up more water and in my experience are pretty boring. They aren't usually very colorful and normally don't do much besides find a place to hang out and stay there....until it's time to eat. Then they come out, get food and go back to their spot. I've kept small catfish, bass, bluegill, crappie, etc...all the same. About the most amusing I've seen them was when I temporarily house a couple of bluegill for a few days in a tank on my back deck and that was probably only because the tank was empty and there was nothing for them to hide behind.

Good post but they are what he likes.

And most tilapia being fed to pet fish are farm raised...

I'm sure the town/state would love to know you were taking stock they paid for and putting it in your private pond...

Trust me they don't care. These people take some CRAZY amounts of fish! The wildlife guy told me to take them. I was releasing them.

Look Andrew it doesn't matter if the person who personally paid for the bluegill/pumpkin seed told you to take them, does that make it ok to try to keep them alive in a 5 gallon bucket? 6 of them? Dunno how you thought that was a good idea.

Jesse cut him some slack. He didn't know any better and he already said that he felt bad about the fish not surviving.

I figured they would be fine over night. I went and changed the water fully before I went to bed. So they died within 7 hours which I thought they would be fine for 12 hours in. It was false judgement. Once again I'm very sad that they died. :( I will bring a bunch of air pumps next time and bigger buckets for each fish. I'll bring 5 gallon round buckets with air bubblers and 2 fish per bucket. I actually figured they would be fine as fish are shipped for up to 48 hours in completely stagnant water and usually survive. Thought they'd be fine.

I think you're still missing the point that you don't have the tank space for even one of those guys and you shouldn't be adding native fish to your cichlid tank. And what would be the point of putting them in a huge pond where you might not even see them very often? It seems to me that if you want to do that you could save yourself a lot of work by simply going to a farm supply store and buying a bunch of them as babies to stock your pond with.

You're right, but he hasnt listened up until this point and I doubt he'll stop now.

OP, most fish vendors pump pure oxygen into fish bags above the water before long shipping trips.
