90 Gallon Malawi stocking options?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's too small; and even if it is not, Venustus is going to get killed by aggressive zebra etc when small, and if he manage to get big, he will eat the mbunas
Not necessarily true...
Nimbos can be quite aggressive, themselves. Also, I can't imagine an 8" N. venustus eating 5" mbuna. As long as the fish are watched for any signs of trouble I don't see why the OP's stocklist won't work.

NLS Cichlid works for any Mbuna, carnivores, herbivores, insectivores... It's the only food needed for a Mbuna tank.[/url] app
Also this ^^^ as far as dietary concerns go.

I have 2 Ni.Venustus in with my labs, haps, and peacocks in a 55. So far they are not aggressive at all, but I am expecting to have to trade them up some day. They will get too big for me at least.

Thank you for agreeing with me COG I know I am right as I have had venustus in a 125 with no problems lol. Anyways Electric yellows are cool and you should get some of those :) You could use just basic veggie flake from kensfish.com and feed blood worms twice a week. That would work :)

If you toss any platies in with that stock then they will disappear, but I would be careful because mbuna are prone to bloat if they are fed a diet too high in protein. I feed mine a mix of NLS, algae wafers, and zucchini and the do great with it.

Ya the platy thing would be like once a month max. So im working on aquascaping my tank starting tomoro and i had a stocking list ready but im unable to find the 2 afras (white top and reef) that i wanted so im looking for 2 more species to go with my labs and red zebras. I need some blue and some stripes in there. Any suggestions? The only ones i saw that stood out at my lsf were pseudotropheus demasoni and pseudotropheus elongatus. Which out of the 2 would be better with my mix and what would be a good 4th species?
