Texas blood parrot cichlid

Yep, +1 with Chris. Carpintis is a Texas. I thought he was asking about the SB I have. Chris, You think it was bred to this as opposed to being crossed through the blood parrot gene?

Shortened bodies a deformity that osccurs and with these fish they are breed to have that certain trait. While something similar can be produced by hybridizing with a Parrot, that is not the case with this fish.

And that's just a few articles that I can randomly pull up detailing how texas cichlid is Herichthys cyanoguttatum, which is completely different from the green texas, i.e. Herichthys carpintis.

Of course there are confusions, carpintis being referred to as texas, or cyanoguttatum being referred to as green texas. But that's a mistake in identification, or when people are misinformed/did not do their research. I've seen texas being referred to as carpintis and green texas being called a cyanoguttatum before, doesn't mean that suddenly the terms or interchangeable.

They're mistakes, and rather than letting the mistakes slide, better to correct it when it happens. Such as right now. :/

@JaredT...that would be a 'Killin" or "Kirin" parrot depending on who you talk to....it is a hybrid as well. Beautiful fish, I have one myself with the rest of my blood parrots. If you want a really good factsheet about it click on the link from Chrisplosion's signature "Blood Parrot Care Sheet"

As for the debate on carpintis vs. texas.....texas is a common name for all texas cichlids. Thats like saying you can't call a Ranchu a Goldfish because its a Ranchu....its still a goldfish. Just my $.02

Look up PetZoneSD in the Vendor Forums...I know they had them for awhile. I quit looking after I got mine. Good luck and happy fish-hunting

My experience with them is they are as aggressive as Blood Parrot rather than Flowerhorn. If you are interested in them I would call up all your local stores and tell them to check their wholesale lists, see if anything can order your "Kirin Parrots" or "Flowerhorn Blood Parrots". If you can't get them local PetzoneSD does get them in on a regular basis.

These are some pics of the one of the last batches they got in, was gonna order from them but was able to get them local.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how aggressive would you rate them?
