WOW... Yes I would do DAILY water changes until that comes down. When you get more test stripes or w/e you're using get a different brand.. I was reading around last night and found that someone actually had a issue with test stripes being faulty and were showing high readings when it wasnt high at all. Test your tap water too, that may be the source of your problem, but i cant imagine tap at 80+ ppm, 20 maybe its heard of.

Are you on well water where you are in Florida? That might be the problem.

2 other suggestions, Pick up yourself a larger filter, Marineland Bio Wheel's are GREAT and inexpensive, especially off amazon. I just picked up a 350gph one for 30. Obviously thats over kill, get one for a 30 gallon tank. I would also recommend going to your LFS and picking up some reverse osmosis water to do your water changes for. If you dont have a "LFS" you can call any health food store around you and ask if they have specifically reverse osmosis water machines.

My mom got distilled water is that good and not sure if on a well he looks ALOT better today he's moving and eating so that's some good news

Distilled will work. Don't use it for a 100% water change as in Distilled and RO all nutrients are removed from the water. Start with a 30% or so change using it. Use it every other for a bit. Ask your mom if it's well water, she'll definitely know. Hey man when you get new tests get API Nitrate. It's liquid and much more reliable than strips. You fill a test tube up, drop in the allotted amount of drops, and match to the color template.

Post up pics of your fish I'd like to see!
