I keep sw and fresh...reefing since I was 13 and got my first goldfish tank with blue gravel and castle when I was 6. For the past three years of my life managing a universities live fish lab has been my job, and Im an elected official in our ichthyology society. Ill do 1.2 although even personally with reefing ik im over that over the past couple years, not to mention work. So...

1.2x365x16= a disappointing 7008. :(

Although this doesn't include work 30 hours plus a week, or the club, fish watching, or reading or forum posting on fish...so I feel like I am probably there.

My break down:

My life as a fish keeper (in one shape or form):

8 years old (freshwater) | 9 years old (freshwater)| 10 years old (freshwater)| 11 years old (freshwater)| 12 years old (freshwater)| 13 years old (freshwater)| 14 years old (freshwater)| 15 years old (freshwater)| 16 years old (freshwater)| 17 years old (freshwater) | 18 years old (freshwater & saltwater) | (19,20,21 - chasing girls) | 22 years old (freshwater & saltwater) | 23 years old (freshwater & saltwater) | 24 years old (freshwater) | 25 years old (freshwater) | 26 years old (freshwater) | 27 years old (freshwater) | 28 years old (freshwater) | 29 years old (freshwater) | 30 years old (freshwater) | 31 years old (freshwater) | 32 years old (freshwater) | 33 years old (freshwater) | 34 years old (freshwater) | 35 years old (freshwater) | 36 years old (freshwater) | 37 years old (freshwater) | 38 years old (freshwater) | 39 years old (freshwater) | 40 years old (freshwater).

So where is the ten year break?

I gave up fish for women, in my teens and early 20s. Its the only thing that could keep me away. I kind of regret being away for 10+ years in that time frame.

So where is the ten year break?

Well, if you read what I wrote, "I kind of regret being away for 10+ years", i didn't specify the amount of time I was COMPLETELY away from fish, which was approx. 3 years. I went down to one tank for 10 years. And my passion swooned for those 10 years, as my mind was typically bounded to the pursuit of girls, then women.

Clear?

And I didn't realize the actual numbers until I analyzed it.

Forgive me for not being 100 per cent clear or 100 per cent accurate with all my figures.

My we are held to high standards here!

Peace.

I started keeping fish in 1979.
I took a ten month break in 1988/89 (junior year of High School) to go be an exchange student in Mexico.
I've been gone (Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, Costa Rica) for a few months several times, but always had someone take care of my fish, so I don't know if I have to deduct time for that (I was thinking about fish a lot).

That puts me at roughly 14,000 hours, using the 1.2 hours/day figure. :headbang2

If you were down to "one tank" for those years then how did you keep both saltwater and fresh water in that one tank? Did you switch back and forth every couple weeks?

I'm not sure what I did, or what I said, but let me whole heatedly apologize to you for whatever wrong you feel I have done. Feel free to PM me and let me know so I can address it.

Further, you can use the ignore feature for my posts if you don't like me.

I'm not sure what I did to you, but again, I hope you can forgive whatever it is.

Peace.
