So I have two FX5's running right now on my 300 gallon tank, with a Motoro and Castexi coming into it tomorrow.

I want to know what filter media to put in all three baskets of these things. I've read some people doing some sort of FX5 mod, as well as just placing all three baskets will BioMax in it.

Wanted to see what you ray keepers have been keeping.
The FX5s are sweet, I can't wait to see what they can do!

My goal with these is to keep the fish good and healthy, as well as the water being nice and clear.

I think for the most part filtration set up would not be specific by much.

I am gearing up for some rays that are coming soon and utilizing the FX5s I have already for them. I've stripped them of all filter padding cause I hate the microbubbles and how fast they clog or cause the bubbles when present so now it's just bio only.

I have 6 FX5 filters running. I use ceramic rings in all 3 baskets with the foam filters. Works great and they don't clog up.

the best thing to put in side a fx5 is a eheim pro3

I don't really like canister filters for ray tanks I think you can get a whole lot more filtration for your money with a DIY wet/dry. But if I had to use an fx5 I would go with a mix of potscrubbers and ceramics with just the regular foam

Matrix as it is relatively cheap compared to biomax. Also, seachem says it has more surface area than the rings. But if you still decide to go with the rings, you might wanna check out aquatop as they have a very good offer and you can get 2 bags of rings (500 grams each) for $10 and free shipping.

So I have two FX5's I ordered 6 bags of biomax, I can order 6 more, but I was thinking about each tray 1 bag biomax and the rest pond matrix? If I need 6 "half-servings" for both of the fx5s, how much pond matrix will I need?
