With the ever so growing Festae('Ex' Cichlasoma Festae) population/craze throughout this online community, you hardly ever see any Mayan(Cichlasoma Urophthalmus). Now, it seems like, in these days; Festae is the cichlid to own, while there fairly similar cousins; Mayan cichlids are often an afterthought or compared to festae as, "poor mans festae". Now, i know location will affect my overall question, as Mayans can be caught in almost every body of water in florida. So, to get to the point; in your opinion, which is rarer, Festae or Mayan?

Depends if ypur importing or lfs shopping. Lfs 75% of the time its mayans it seems like but if its ordered over the internet its almost always a festae. This is what i see happening throughout the forum

Good point, I suppose I've only ever seen one Mayan that was labeled as Red Terror.

Central California - Very RARE. To buy from any of the Vendors at about $10-15 for 1" and shipping of $50 or more. Essentially 1" Festaes are worth about $25 to $40 depending on the quanity you buy, if someone really wants one. Mayans are always at the LFS mislabeled as Red Terror.

Maybe it's just here in New Brunswick.

At the gcca cichlid classic in Chicago last weekend, small festae were going for a buck or 2 each. There were 3 or 4 bags of half dozen per bag that went for $10 or under, in the 3 hours I was at the auction.
I got a bag of 5 bartoni for $2, and a bag of 6 Tomocichla seiboldi for $2. Definitely worth the trip. It's Memorial day weekend every year.

At whities pets in Fresno they had a tank full of "true red terrors" just this may and weren't more than ten bucks a piece

Talk about deals! But what does this have to do with the topic of the thread?
