Still waiting on that tank size you have available.

50 (3' x 18" x 21")

I 100% suggest and encourage finding an Abei puffer. Monotrete Abei. Amazing fish. Full freshwater. Tons of personality, more active than most of the rest. Other than that maybe 1 or 2 South American Puffers if you like the look and are ok with the idea of having to be a fish dentist.

They can be pretty rare, try the mom and pop stores. Puffers have teeth that grow throughout their lives, so they need crunchy foods such as snails (not mts) clams, crayfish, crab legs/ the crab, mussel etc to grind their teeth back down. A classic way to tell if you haven't been feeding your puffer is they have a hard time eating / closing their mouth, and if they appear to have a smile. Just make sure to feed one of the foods listed a week and you won't have to worry.

The reason I bring up the dentistry with the South American Puffers is because even with a constant diet of hard shelled foods their teeth grow so fast that youl still have to play dentist once or twice a year. You have to sedate the puffer, and remove him from water quickly to trim his teeth. Some do it with nail clippers, some take them to the vet (bigger puffers). You can youtube it and theres some videos. The abei is tough to find, took me a month or two to track mine down but was 100% worth the wait and search. He was my favorite fish so far in my 7 years of fish keeping.

That tank is nowhere near large enough for an adult FH.

Personally speaking, i think its pretty hard to top a puffer for a wet pet... not many fish are as quick to recognize there owners like puffers... but then thats just me since i'm bias towards them...
