Why are my fish dying!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I heard they also need food! Op, all your parameters were near perfect, your tank was cycled, you did a drip acclimation for them, seem like it was just a bad batch of fish. I know it's sad to loose fish, especially someone in your situation saving your extremely hard earned money only to have it be so extremely short lived. In all honestly I'm fighting the urge to order you a new batch of geo's and just have them shipped to your house. I just hate to see people get discouraged. Keep your head up! :)

I like the quality of these fish, so I really do hope it's just a bad batch...I got my older G. Altifrons from the same place, and he's already stunning at still a small size.

One the two surviving babies I got is looking fantastic, but the other is hiding a lot and has the dark stripes that normally only show up after lights-out. He seems stressed. Is there anything I can do to help reduce the stress?

My Molly fry tank is just a 20g long with a filter/heaters, the only light source is the window it sits in front of. I got 3 Oto's to help keep the algae away, after hearing they're super peaceful I was hoping they would leave the tiny baby fish alone...they did, but of course, two of them have died. I am just having the worst luck ):

Hi there, sorry to hear about losing the young one(did the other one die too?) :(

Some fish just have trouble acclimating to new environments and lose to stress. They're pretty sensitive in addition to them being juvies, so I think you did well, it could have been way worse.

Stunning indeed! This is proof that you care for your fish well :) I can't wait for your community to be all grown up!

This is the happy, healthy-looking baby

The healthy baby is coloring up nicely! It looks a bit skinny still but I'm sure you'll take care of that in no time.

The hider looks stunted when I noticed the size of its eye to its body. This is my opinion though, I hope it grows up nicely.

Keep us posted because I'm looking forward to your updates!

*By the way I saw your FTS on your other thread and I saw the Fluval heater(which I have and use also) under the water. I'm not sure if it's a big deal but the manual said to submerge it within the indicated lines(looks like this ~~~). You'll see this by the top end and the water level should be between those lines. Remember to unplug your heater during water changes also :D I just thought I'd share, whether you listen or not is up to you.

My Fluval heater is a submersible one, so the ~~~ lines read "MINIMUM water level." but thank you anyways for the tip. :)

The babies are definitely way too skinny. Their bellies curve upward ): I'm feeding 3x a day, as much as they want to eat. The Plecos and the Bichirs feast on anything left over! I also want to add more variety to their diet. I used to feed the pellets, PLUS tubifex worms, raw fish, etc..,But my last foster dogs have been one that needed to be rehabilitated, a puppy, and then the boy who I still haven't finished grooming/de-matting(but I got most of it off)...they have been very demanding of my time! Today I'm going to thaw some raw fish that I bought for my dog(she eats Prey Model Raw), and feed it to the fish, and freeze the rest...that way it's easy to just thaw and feed, no need to cut it each time.

What fish are safe to feed aquarium fish? I have Salmon, Sardines, and Cod. Are these OK?

I did notice that the baby seems to have an oddly large eye for his size, so I'm hoping he grows into it..

How can I help reduce stress on the baby that's hiding a lot?
