I do all the time but the owner has gotten to know me so he gives me deals and trades all the time. 9 out of 10 he losses out but he still gives it to me . I guess cause I visit the store atleast once a week . This week I bought a true green terror and 3 hybrid cichlids and he gave a big bag of cichlid gold for free. He always gunna give me a hystrix stingray if its not bought by monday.

My LFS is great and only 10 minutes away, He specialises in fancy plecos. I could never pull this on them as they are very knowlegeable. One owner knows the latin names of everything in his shop and breeds half of his stock and sells the juvies when they are of a good size.

My fav lfs is atleast one hour and a half away from were I live and wen I get the chance I drive there, yeah there are a lot of lfs that try and screw you over example one that is 6mins away frm me wanted to sell me a 4 1/2 inch fahaka for $150and had the baby fahakas for $65 and went to my fav 2hr fishstore and got mine for $20 ;)

There is something inside of you that is seeing that these errors are easy to play on.This can build into a serious moral deficiency, or not.Yes, over something just as simple as that.Even so, it's not because they are un-intelligent, it is just because, #1, they are running a business and some price higher than others.#2, like you said, they hire people because they need help.Sometimes, actually most of the time, it is staff that only goes there to work, really not having an advanced knowledge to intervene and make things right.

In the end, it's on you. Know what I'm saying?

No. I really don't know what you're saying. Lol.

If a person decides to start running a store that sells fish, and that person knows nothing about fish, and they don't train their staff to know anything about fish, or pay them to research fish, they are absolutely "un-intelligent". I don't know how anyone could say otherwise. They only reason the store is still in business is because of the ludicrous prices they can charge because they have monopolized a 15 min drive in and around my town, and many people that own aquariums don't know enough to know they are getting ripped off.

^ Well to play devils advocate, you can't expect min. pay employees to learn about every type of fish out there... especially if they aren't even info fish in the first place, since a lot of them seem to be young kids looking for a job, or people who just need work due to a bad economy...

As for the store owner, now if that person doesn't know anything about fish, then okay, fair enough that they should at least learn about the "product" they are selling, so i'll give you that part...

I fully understand they do not get paid well. However, the owner/manager should pay them to at least spend a couple hours a week to research, or learn it themselves to instruct the employees. Sure, this would cost them more money, but it would make up for it with higher survival rates, healthier fish leading to more sales, less mislabelling and the ability to actually answers questions customers ask sometimes.
