My 22inch widebar dat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it looks to me i have changed my approch and am being nice in my last few posts or have you only read the first few about tank size

Not sure how many times i need to explain it...but i will try again. Bought this fish (about 1inch) 10years ago. Raised him in a 90gal for 4years to about 14inch. Moved him in to the 300. Been living in here for 6years.
Appreciate the effort to be nice in your last few posts as quoted by you.
I think you might have come off a lil different much earlier in the thread if you just simply gave your honest opinion of the actual appearance of my fish through the pics. Then maybe have asked if i ever think i will need to upgrade or not. Not some monologue, how my fish are recieving cruel husbandry and flopping around in a puddle.
Like i said it before, you can house dats in much less water volume without those rays! Yes WB spend time in deep water when breeding, but when feeding in the mekong they travel to much shallower waters. Your 1000gal compared to my 300 is nothing when you compare to the mekong. Both of our tanks can work as long as theres pivot room which both of us have.

I didn't realise you had it 10 years

That's a long time and pictures of when you first got him/she

glad you are finally paying attention to what the OP is saying. Most of us in this thread have fully read and comprehended what the OP has written. No hard feelings or anything. I can't speak for anyone else. But the beauty of this site is to be able to learn from those who have more experience than myself. And because You are one of the few on this site with a dat of similar size, It would be nice to hear about your experience, as well as pics and what You have done to get Your dat to reach the size it is. With all due respect to tank size, Most of us would like to hear about the behaviors, Mannerisms, benefits and pitfalls of keeping such a fish.
My Question for You, (as well as JayC74) is about breeding. How do You grow a fish to that size w/out wanting to see offspring? Are these fish easily bred in aquaria?

Unfortunately these fish do not or have never bred in captivity. Even more bad news the larger Tiger Dats (ST’s) are not seen in the wild anymore. Most likely the population has been fished out to a point there’s very few if any left in the wild. Basically we are looking at a couple extinct fish.

I had 7 ST at one point and they were fighting like mad to keep them happy with no fight its best to keep one on its own or have big size differences

I won't comment on this tank size again but mine is 3ft deep and mine like to swim up and down at all levels

LMAO! I didn't want to say it before, But I can only attribute Your behavior to jealousy. Is it because His Looks cleaner than Yours, Or because he Produced better results with less resources.

Amazing Dat OP! Makes me wanna get one... but I don't think I have any tank mates that would play nice... one day when I get a new tank setup...
