Let's say you can get either a brand new eheim ecco 2234 for $70 or Eheim classic 2215 for $100. Which one would you pick ?

Neither....I'd save up extra cash and get a fx5.

Classic all the way... Made to last and the most trouble free canister ever!

100 gallon tank. My budget is only $100 and i already owned eheim 2234

if you can stand to look at it,an ac110 woiuld probably work best with what you already have .you would get better mech. filtration

They are probably outside the budget but I have been using a couple of the Marineland C360's for the last three years and love them. Far superior to the Eheim Classics (which I also own...) in terms of flexibility and ease of maintenance. Just some food for thought.

Good luck with your search.

Meh... Had very bad experiences with marineland canisters pissing all over my floor as well as flat out dying on me. Never again. Kept me away from canisters for years until I decided to give an eheim classic a shot. Eheim clasic: simple, dependable, durable, reliable, effective, etc... How often do you have to maintain your canister anyways? Come on cleaning the classic isn't hard at all. After you prime it the first time, that's all. Quick disconnects make it so you don't have to do it again (unless you need to clean the hose). Sucking on the tube is not hard either... I get have a couple nets laying around, dump the substrat pro in one and rings in another. Rinse all that stuff out, put it back together, and im done. How much harder is that? I don't see no superiority over the classic in fact far from that.

To the OP: If you already got a canister the aquaclear 110 is a great idea with only a 100$ budget. For a 100 gallon tank a FX5 would be an affordable yet great option if you could save up the $.
