Sorry for the loss man, perhaps it's like they said and fish have no personalities but IMO every fish I've owned has been different and I mean the same breeds and ages over the 12 years I've been doing this. I have had a complete success at what you were trying to achieve as I've shoal'd gatf/vatf and payara for a long time now with nothing more than a few scales missing here and there. I have plenty of dithers being polypterus and snooks to even Indo datnoids. My tank has little to no aggression unless it's feeding time. Oh forgot to mention I've also successfully introduced a mala wolf over a few weeks now with not even one territory incident and everyone is happily getting along together... But like they said some people get lucky. It's all about environment from what I've seen, when they are limited to swim space and have low current they become intolerant of eachother but when open space is available and extreme overkill current they are gentle as babies. Just my personal experiences with these guys not trying to disregard the pros who were speaking before.. Just for the record I've lost a gatf before due to fighting (a few years ago) but when the correct environment is in place you'd be surprised. Just my two cents :)

I'm sorry for your loss bro and I feel your pain. Today I woke up to find my VATF missing the back third of his body and my GATF looking fat and happy. It worked well for a few weeks then it stopped working, in spectacular fashion I might add. I'm considering rehoming my tarpon, aro, cuda and scomb because the GATF is starting to really develop an attitude. It is what it is. At least he completely ignores all my bottom feeders. For now. lol

Edit- I know what you mean about punkass kids too. LOL

damn your in the same boat as me then. i have been thinking of getting a tarpon, but the gatf is making me think twice. mine leaves my aro and ropefish alone.

man thats what i was going for. but i don't know about the current i have had over 1300gph in the 125gal and after i dropped it down to around 800-1000gph it has been less aggression until this one bite. i keep them with full stomachs and a day off to digest. i don't have as many fish in the tank that is what i think should be different.

also i have not seperated these 2 remaining gatf of about the same size and they have not had anything but an increase in random charges. but none of the charges ever contact. i am selling one though.

tarpon is a good mediator... nicest fish in the world, and my ATF's treat him as though he was one of them, nipping and chasing, but he's much larger so they cause very little to no damage... feel bad for the tarpon, but he doesnt seem bothered by it at all... i have heavy current in my tank and the tarpon is fine with it... def a good fish as a mediator and is a beautiful and awesome predator in his own right

I'm sorry, I googled "Tarpon" and got a saltwater fish. I am just going to randomly assume you're not talking about that one, so could you be more specific with the name of the fish in question so I can do a proper google search? (Newblet trying to keep up with the conversation here...lol) Thanks!

Megalops cyprinoides, Indo-Pacific tarpon. Prefers salt water as an adult, but can live for life in fresh, and many in the wild do. For life.

i have an Atlantic tarpon, but i'm pretty sure its the same deal as far as living in salt/fresh water

Why do people put MBU's w/Rays? Because its the thing to do... pushing limits of others failures.

Why does ExoticFishGuy have a 2' Goliath in a 300gl (looks smaller though)... to push the limits

Why do I see few Pbass and Discus combos... to push the limits

Why did I mix my 16" VATF w/2-4" Discus... to push the limits

Why did I try to mix Gold Wolf, Goliath, Armatus etc.... in the same tank (check my pics).... to p___ t__ l____'s

Why the heck do people try to mix Aimara w/anything??

Why do we attack someone's attempt at whatever goal was intended? Wasn't your friggin money!... to push buttons!

This site has died down like no other from jerks chiming in to say why their head is bigger. Sucks how most of these new booties are (old ones too)! I'll be the first to say I had a role in flaming peeps on what IIII didnt agree with. I think i've done a good job on keeping my comments positive on others threads (unless clowning around Lol).

Sbuse, keep doing your thing big dogg. I would rather see "trying combos" than the same tank mates over and over and over......

by the way... R1_ridah had 5-8 ATF's in one tank and no one flamed him. Another guy selling VATF's in the bay area had 8pcs or so in a 180 if I remember right... no one flamed him.... SMH.

These are almost word for word my thoughts on the matter as well...Sbuse has some ridiculously nice fish and anyone who's trying to make him out to be some novice fish keeper is wildly incorrect...( ecoli ).

I personally happen to think that if that one gar hadn't got past the divider we wouldn't be having this conversation at all... Gatf are "piranha- like", in that they will ferociously go after the weakest fish in they're school until it toughens up or dies.

And anyone laughing at djaalix is CRAZY that dude has one of the nicer monster collections on here that are all in one tank.

and to my original point @West1 your point about ExoticFishGuy's GATF was so spot on especially after his latest update...except for the fact that he said in another thread its a 230!!!! Thats so crazy that thing looks great too.

Sorry for noob question but what does the v in vatf stand for. I know it's a kind of tiger fish
