Is this just a dull firemouth

Ive has this fish since it was an inch now probably 5" its about 18 months old . But I think it's rather dull colored eh? It was always the leader of the other cichlids, till they out grew him.anyway heres the pics

Feed : hikari bio gold, staple, wafers, and gold, also frozen bloodworms mysis shrimp and spiritulina.

Params all check out, and the lighting is very well, think just poor genes.

My buddy's fm and also I've had 5 very young n small fm they were full of sparkling hues and red and blue in fins the body was also very colorful any idea why this ones so dull, he lives in optimal conditions.

Haveu tried feeding him nls? I used to feed my fish hikari but switched to nls and saw a dramatic change in color and size. He could also be stressed. His dorsal looks like someone nipped on it. Is he getting picked on by the other fish?
