Disaster goodbye tanganyikan and others tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
..but if you add water first, you are adding chlorine to your fish.I use a python to drain and use it to fill my buckets.why is that so hard?......the prime i'm talking about is the liquid kind that smells like ass!..I use 20 drops of api dechlor for every 5gallon bucket.no problem.

Also if your using 20 drops for 5 gallons then your using twice as much as Prime would suggest. Prime is 2 drops a gallon so only 10 drops for 5 gallons. How about those apples?

maybe you're lazy!get some exercise!lol....btw-when you have a crapload of tanks, dechlor can get costly.I don't like poisoning my fish, even for a minute either, and I'm not too lazy to lift a few buckets!

Thousands of people dose for entire tank and put the water in using the python. Their fish are fine. The Prime website says it's fine and people have done it this way for quite awhile with no adverse effects. I have a 180 gallon tank and I change 50% weekly. Thats's 90 gallons. What am I suppose to do....fill 30 (3) gallon buckets.

This, nothing to do with being lazy, I use buckets on fry tanks, but they're only 10 gals.

Wow, quite the discussion. lol

How much Prime, Safe, etc one uses is entirely dependent on the level & type of disinfectant ones water treatment facility uses. The dosage rates on the labels are only examples, based on specific doses of specific disinfectants. 1 capful of Prime for 50 gallons of tap water may be required to treat one persons tank, and less than 1/2 a capful could be required in another's.

I posted a thread that explains some of this in more detail. Some of you may want to read it. :)

BTW - a 4kg container of Seachem Safe, treats 400,000 gallons of my local tap water. A small price to pay for the safety & well being of my fish.

How much are the 4kg bottles? When I get a few more tanks and the pond I want I was going to get the larger bottles. A couple hundred bucks at the most and you have almost a lifetime supply of this stuff if it didn't expire ever. Idk how long Prime lasts though.

All I know is prime did its job. Dropped my tank nitrates to less than 25ppm very stable also. Been monitoring the tank. This brand does what its suppose to and that good enough for me. No clue why spartacus is so butt hurt about it. Thanks to all those nice guys out there and helping me move on and keep a healthy tank and for letting me know the details of this product. Its been a great experience here in MFK. Thanks so much.
