i'm confused...what are all these posts about population, ratio, number of athletes etc etc, just 2 days ago the us was ahead of china in the medals and gold medal count. we're about to get into the medal rounds of the team sports. Both countries dominate certain parts of the olympics. Gotta see whos ahead at the end.

ps, i haave no idea what the op said....they're actually on ignore. lmao. must be the only person i've ever iggied

This thread saddens me. I came from China and call US home. I am glad that both countries are doing well and will be number one and two on the medal count. Some sports I cheer for china and others US; and I don't boo any athletes.

As for the doping charge, the swimmer got tested not because US complained, but they test every winner. That US coach is just have a case of sour grapes and should be removed from his position on the IOC. Defaming someone without proof should have severe consequences. As for doping in general, the country with most dopers is unfortunately USA...so Americans don't really have anything to sing about(one of the 100 meter dashers just came back from a suspension)

Lastly, a sign of the times. I saw this on Chinese TV...

Go team China, this message brought to you by CocaCola ;)

The difference between the Chinese athletes and USA athletes is… It is the Chinese athletes’ job to compete and they get paid to train for the Olympics and other competitions. The USA athletes have to buy all their own equipment, paid for their own training, and need to pay for their own coaches. They do not get paid from the US government to compete; everything comes out of their own pocket unless they have sponsors… most don’t. There are only a couple of countries in the world that do not have government sponsored athletic programs. The USA is one of them.

Every single Chinese athlete in the Olympics was taken away from their family at very young age and trained specifically for that one sport. Most properly don’t even like what they are doing, they just do it because they are trained to do it. Most do not even show any emotion when they compete or win.

i just wish the 2 countries went head to head in more of the team sports.

Watch women beach volleyball...regular women volleyball is also fun to watch but it seens US has a really good team thus year. Gymnastics is usually fun to watch as well, although this year China is a little weak on the women side.

US strength is in swimming, track and field, basketball, volleyball tennis, gymnastics etc

China is in ping pong, diving, gymnastics, weight lifting, badminton, shooting.

Yes, for most arheletes in china is like NBA players, just without much money unless they win gold. As for taken away from their family part...no you have watched too much American TV. The family usually send them to train because they were good at a sport, and not because of compulsion.

No emotion? Really? What tv have you being watching? NBC coverage is a joke...how many Chinese winners have you seen?

She didnt just beat the record. Its obvious you are not up to date on what we are discussing so Im done here. Do some research on how fast she swam and why it is odd. It has nothing to do with just beating the world record. It has to do with China's long twisted history of banned substances. It has to do with the fact that she was faster in the beginning than Phelps, and faster in the last part than Lochte, both of which are the fastest swimmers in the world. It has to do the fact she is a full second faster than the world record. If you truly want to talk about this, please be informed.[/QUOTE]

Yeah she beat her own pb by 5.
Funny thing the way your saying it's highly unlikely with a new swimmer with no history beating the record it's as though you still believe she is drugged haha.
So Butthurt she done it fair and square.
Be informed it's as though your a part of the Olympics hahaha.
Sorry mr Olympics hahaha

It is you who obviously don't know what you are talking about. Many swimmers at her age show great improvements from year to year. And she does have records to back her up on this. But all your talk is for naught. She is clean and John Leonard is shown to the world as the poor looser he really is.
