How often are you doing watcher games ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Probably because thier is only 2 cichlids (4-5 inches these are red peackock cichlid and blue johanni cichlid ) and an fx5 is cleaning the system lol... and are fed every other day through a syringe.

Haven't really done anything with this system because I've been thinking about tearing it down because will be moving soon and it would just make it easier.

Pretty sure the monthly fx5 cleaning and syringe feeding is what keeps them healthy

I have fx5 as well, and I can tell u its not cleaning ur water magically, except for debris and bio media but that doesn't get rid of nitrates...... If you count for evaporation your prlly doing 10%/ week which is 30%/month, your understocked and you under feed them. So you get by, but if you more fish it wouldnt be possible.

People who have big fish and big tanks have big bio loads which means bi weekly wc are mandatory in maintaining their health.

Lol i forgot about evaporation lol, so I guess we can say through 10% water changes and week along with good filter maintenance as well as not over feeding is good.

Imo 10% per week is not enough regardless of stock. If your nitrates go up by 10ppm per week and you change 10%, now you're at 9ppm. Next week they go to 19 ppm, 10% wc now you're at 17ppm. See where this is going?

not to mention the build up of dissolved solids... i concur.. dont try this at home. its called " old tank syndrome"

Topping off water changes no water...

Anyone with a 50 gal and cichlids doing no water changes in a year cannot say then parameters are great as they simply do not know enough, get a new, non dip strip nitrate test kit and then be honest about the params, even jam packed with plants I doubt it would be ok, I also expect the ph is swinging.
