.357 vs ..38+p, your thoughts and opinions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use a 38sp, S&W 637 airwieght. .357 mag is the best out of the three, but 38spl+ is BA. Plenty of power.

I plan on getting these for it.

I love how people arnt even discussing what the OP wants. 357 sig is ok but no point (some 9mm +p+ loads will meet or exceed most 357 sig, while having cheap plinking available). 40 is another that has nothing really over 9mm except losing capacity. 40 is similar cost to 38 spl but cheaper than 357 mag. But 357 mag gun can shoot 38spl.

Got bored and went to the lgs, I'm going to go with the s&w 442 and probably get the moonclip model.

Looks like a nice little revolver. Out of curiosity, what made you choose the s&w 442 over something like the Ruger LCR?

The s&w felt better in my hands, the lcr felt good but this one felt just right. Another reason is I decided that even if I got a .357 I would most likely carry it with .38+p, if I wanted to carry with .357 I would have gone with the lcr since its significantly cheaper and smaller than what s&w has to offer in .357.

Cool, congrats on the new s&w!

Do you have a Coonan? Any idea how it performs? Any problems feeding 357 casings?
Sorry OP, not trying to derail your thread.

It is next on my list. Almost traded for one but could not close the deal. I will likely be on the waiting list at the factory soon. From all my research it sounds like the new models have fixed the problems from the past and shoots well with .38 and .357. I would not recommend it as first pistol or your only one, even the makers do not recommend it is a first. I like it because it is unique and I load and shoot mostly .38 and .357.

One opinion on the .357 Sig... It is kind of a specialty round. It reproduces one specific .357 load in an auto loader. Outside of that one load I think there are much better and more versatile options.
