CREATING THE ULTIMATE FILTRATION AND EVOLVING WITH YOUR FISH!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We've been using two small 25sq ft cartridges. Upgrading to 100 sq ft cartridges on the new system. There is an incredible reef system on Reef Central that has a Pentair Rainbow RTL 100 or something very similar for mechanical filtration. There's an MFK member from Mexico City with a large tank with what appears to be an RTL type filter Unfortunately, I'm at the lake for a few days, so can't post pics of other setups with closed loop mechanical filtration utilizing RTL type filters.

Ever thought about using these for your new system?

How many micron do we filter down to in our ray tanks? I have a hard time believing that anything that is simply "rinsed with a hose" is going to filter down very far. Could this filter take a huge hit in terms of catching the big poo? I'm sure, but I'm guessing you're still gonna need socks or even finer screen before it hits the bio. It's probably great for you guys with bead filters, but for us without beads can these mechanical filters really replace socks?

Don't get hung up on microns and leave the beads out of the equation.
My pond with a 1/15hp Wave pump (3000gph very low amps) + 40 Wave UV. No beads or separate bio filter. Low back pressure allow uses of a small pump. High flow with low energy = saves electricity $$$$$.

Mechanical cartridge filter after 1 week with 75 mahseers.

You tell me if this will catch big poo and what micron do you say liquid algae is?
Simply "rinsed with a hose". Yes.

Good stuff. So if I understood you correctly, you have no other filter on the pond? Just this cartridge?

What's the cartridge made out of? What's inside? Looks like it does a heck of a job at catching stuff. And easy to clean too.

Like you said, the Ammonia and Nitrite conversion is easy. 50# of gravel in the pond + wall algae.
Mechanical, mechanical, mechanical........

That's awesome! I had no idea you ran just a mechanical filter. And the pond/fish speak for themselves. Now we just need to see the inside of this cartridge :D

Not just matting....Holy Mat. No relations to the Holy bead.

My system uses a pleated cartridge...100 microns. I see what you have posted has some finer micron cartridges available. No, I never considered anything else..I love my RTLs....kinda why fix what's not broken?
