  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
didn't someone posted a cigarette in a pike's mouth, and people said it was disrespectful. what makes a mangled snakehead "nice work" but not disrespectful? people's perceptions are all so skewed!

Like I said some people (Spotfin) are hypocrites and biased. However I always wanted to go bowfishing for a trophy snakehead....and a trophy bowfin too. Got a 34lbs bigmouth buffalo other night by a bow but missed a nice big smallmouth buffalo and a big bowfin.

That would be me, I posted about the musky with cig in mouth. After seeing all the comments, I knew it would be useless to argue with someone, bunch of hypocrties on this site and everywhere else. Its ok to do this and do that but its not ok to do this and do that, but yet I do this but dont do that....

i know what you mean. It's tough to please everyone when it comes to the fishery and the ecosystems.

Everyone should just shut up and fish :) All this arguing is a lost cause, it MAY sink into a few THICK skulls but highly doubt it. As much as you try, people will always push back, they want want to be right, they want you to be wrong because they are always right. Arguing over a fish ID is one thing, but arguing over this is another. Its easy to type out an arguement, but in person them folks will look at you like you are speaking a foreign language, kinda like a deer in the headlight look, because you know...they have the internet to hurry up and look for arguements to post here, they cant do that in person, how do I know? Ive done it before and I was the one doing the explaining. Im no expert but dang, most folks just overlook the entire picture, instead of looking at it as a whole, they look at is a single item, which is the item they enjoy the most such as lets say bass. There are so many ways things can happen uder the water, we can only speculate what we want to think instead of what is actually happening and even for experts, its not always the correct answer. Us as fishermen and fishergals have made mistakes and so has the DNR, what does a lonely MFK member have over someone else that they know the answer? Just need to sit and think about it for a minute or two, do some intelligent research, not something that someone has bashed about as well just so you can use that guys bashing on another forum to try and help your cause.

I never really understood the bickering about snakeheads, etc. We all know the media hypes this sort of things up just to get a story and some folks take it to heart as the truth and the only truth. Eradicating snakeheads is not going to happen, we can only hope to understand and manage them just as we do all our other fish. Yes its not right or was't right to release them into the waters or blame it on nature for raining and over flowing a pond and the fish get loose that way, watever the case may be, they are here and here to stay. If you can comprehend that, I dont know what else to tell you. Maybe in a small pond we can almost control a species of fish such as the Maryland incident where they wiped out an entire pond but in a canal, with so many interconnects, its just not going to happen. Should nature take its course to remove the snakeheads from the Florida waters or the Potomac, then so be it but we as humans are not going to make that happen. If it makes you feel better to kill them when you catch them, so do it, if you wish to release, so do it, if you wish to eat, so do it. Just be happy that you are fishing and enjoy it instead of complaining.

Last I heard they've tried so many different ways to kill snakeheads that they ended up wiping out many native fish just trying to destroy this one. I read somewhere that a group had wiped out an entire stretch of a river system just trying to kill a few snakeheads but ended up killing off thousands of some rare native species. Seems like a waste. I think it's kind of amazing that you can drop a fish from another part of the planet into a river system and have it out compete fish that were supposed to be the better survivors for that environment. Not saying I support the idea, just that I find it interesting.

That being said, I bet that fish was delicious lol.

There is no "seems", it was a waste, a total 100% waste of time and money where the money could have used somewhere more productive.

Big difference between throwing a musky on shore and hunting a snakehead, taking enjoyment trying to outsmart these very smart fish then enjoying the fillets. I see no disrespect in "mangling" a snakehead if i enjoyed it and ate it. I do see disrespect in throwing a fish on shore for no reason .

you're missing the point. I'm not saying you're disrespecting the fish, its fine if you bowhunt and eat the fish. Its people's attidude in general, how if they like the fish then "oh poor fish", and if they don't like it, they'll say, good, let it die and suffer. and yes, the musky should not have been thrown on shore to rot, that is just plain ignorance.
